After studying the work of Old Masters for many years, Nigel Mason’s art incorporates centuries-old trends and techniques.
The untouched background and lightly sketched foreground of this artwork creates a more intimate connection to the artist and his process by deliberately leaving the piece seemingly unfinished.
This is characteristic of non-finito art, a trend that emerged in the 16th century after Italian Renaissance painters like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci left their sculptures and paintings unfinished. As explored in a 2016 exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this unfinished quality values naturalism over idealism and is alluring in its imperfection.

Nigel’s art is inspired by his childhood in 1950s Yorkshire. His touching oil paintings were a talking point at our Summer Exhibition in 2015, where he appeared as an IN:SIGHT finalist.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
