The irrepressible Billy Connolly returns with the latest instalment of his Born on a Rainy Day collection, this time with coloured interpretations his most celebrated images. Originally sketched in black and white, Billy’s reimagination of these artworks illustrates the continuing evolution of his unique signature style.
By introducing a spectrum of colour to his most beloved, Billy expresses his love for creativity and originality, encouraging us all to embrace our individuality, no matter what. Although his figures are faceless, they still manage to possess an extraordinary self-awareness and humanity, whilst their anonymity opens them up to individual interpretation, creating a unique bond with the viewer.
Billy’s joy for life is clear and infectious in this collection. As we see the figures playing music, dancing and expressing their unique style, Billy gives us an insight into some of the most nostalgic moments throughout his life and career.
Whether it’s hearing the pulsing sound of bagpipers lining the streets at the Edinburgh Fringe, the blossoming relationship with his art or the magical light of the Scottish gloaming, each piece reveals life through Billy’s eyes, while inviting the viewer to enjoy it in a way that’s true to them.
Described by The Times as 'poignant', 'funny' and 'enigmatic', Billy’s highly collectible prints and stainless-steel sculptures are as amusing as his comedy.

An original work of art is a one-off piece - painting, sculpture, mixed media - which is made by the artist themselves. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves. A limited edition is a translation of an original piece and there is a fixed number of these made. The piece will be signed by the artist, and the edition number will show you which number in the series you have purchased. Read more about the different types of art we sell here.
We do offer an installation service should you need assistance. You can contact our art consultants for further information here. Please note that this is currently only available in mainland UK.

This artwork is hand-signed by Billy Connolly.
Given Castle Fine Art's expertise as UK's leading art retailer, we are committed to the highest standards specially regarding printing. Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.
The richness, accuracy and depth of colour is thanks to the method’s potential to achieve a huge colour gamut (the spectrum of colours distinguishable by the human eye). Unlike the four tones used in lithography, giclées often use five: light cyan, cyan, light magenta, yellow and black. It is believed that a giclée will significantly outlast a lithographic print, keeping its vivid colour for up to 200 years.
Communicating his humour through shapes and lines, it was on a rainy day in 2007 that Billy first put pen to paper. Taking refuge from the grey drizzle of Montreal, Canada, he entered an art shop with a twinkling curiosity and left with an armful of supplies and the urge to create. Over the next five years his drawings developed into his debut fine art collection, Born on a Rainy Day, which launched in 2012 and continues to connect with collectors today.
The world-famous musician and comedian’s iconic artworks have no less impact than one of his legendary comedy sketches. The faceless figures possess an extraordinary self-awareness and humanity. Devoid of emotion or expression, their anonymity opens them up to individual interpretation, creating a unique bond with the viewer.
Featured by The Times and documentaries including Billy Connolly: It's Been a Pleasure, his minimalist drawings have been described as 'poignant', 'funny' and 'enigmatic' by critics.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
