Metropolitan living is at the centre of Paul Kenton’s dynamic new summer 2024 collection. With vibrant abstract and impressionist influences, the four limited edition artworks spotlight the unmistakeable markers of New York and London in Kenton’s distinctive style.
Kenton’s artworks are guided by his love of global adventure, exploration and discovery. The image we see is often a direct recreation of an inspirational moment he has experienced when travelling.
Light is one of the most striking influences for Kenton in these moments and he tries to accurately capture this element in his art. You can see Kenton using contrast in light in this collection to capture the energetic pulse and pace of these bustling metropolises.
He often creates this contrast through heavy impasto painting, a technique that involves applying thick layers of paint that hold the imprint of an artist’s brush or, in the case of Kenton, palette knife. This creates a three-dimensional texture in the original artworks.

Two of the original works from this collection, ‘Skyline Splendour’ and ‘Magnetic Metropolis’, were painted on sheets of brass. By leaving parts of the brass exposed, Kenton has been able to pull through warm, orange tones to replicate that precious golden hour.
Through his use of rich colours and raw textures, Kenton captures the contemporary allure yet underlying intensity of urban life, implying the sounds, smells and atmosphere that surround the scene. Each piece draws the eye to a prominent figure, be that an architectural landmark or, uncommonly for Kenton, a person. ‘New York Abstract’ sees Kenton bring people to the fore, a slight deviation from his signature cityscape style.
“I’ve put a little more detail than usual into the figures as I wanted them to be more prominent in the piece, which also helps everything sit back in the distance.”
This aspect immerses the viewer amongst those in the scene; we become part of the landscape.
